I have been using these Greenies Pill Pockets since they first appeared on the market, several years ago. I have to say that this is one of those great ideas that was just waiting to happen, Greenies is to be praised and commended to the heavens above for actually developing the idea, and producing the product. Canine owners everywhere owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Greenies. In the far distant, and wretched past – giving pills (capsules and tablets) to ones faithful friend and loyal companion was something to be feared and dreaded, by both parties involved. This was an activity to be greeted with the enthusiasm that accompanies toe-nail trimming day (Another great idea out there waiting to happen, someone please find a way to remove the terror of toenail clipping time from the hearts of both man and beast.). However, with the advent of Pill Pockets, life is sweet again, tranquility rules supreme, and both owner and fur buddy can now be at peace with the world, and with each other. These pill pockets are ingeniously designed little cup-like appearing objects, they are round or oblong (Depending upon your choice of the capsule, or the tablet version of the Pill Pocket), and have much the texture of fresh Play-Doh, that has been warmed in the hands until soft and malleable. The composition of this material appears to be something that holds tremendous appeal for ones happy dog, who no longer flees in terror at the mere sound of a rattling pill bottle. One takes the pill or capsule, places it in the cavity of the Pill Pocket, then squishes the Pill Pocket closed, into the desired shape for the canine in question. By this point in time, your friendly canine has picked-up on the tantalizing aroma of the Pill Pockets, and is probably quivering., shaking, possibly offering to shake hands or to lie down……..anything that will enable the Pill Pocket to be quickly introduced into the gaping maw of the pet in question. What a relief, no more chasing the pet down, cornering the terrified animal, wrenching its jaws open with brute force, and somehow (Hopefully.) jamming the pill far enough down the throat of the violently resisting pet in order to clamp its jaws shut again, massaging its throat all the while (And somehow managing to keep a firm hold on the pet through all of these machinations.), and hoping with all ones heart the the pill has actually been swallowed, instead of being cleverly concealed in the corner of said pets mouth, only to be violently ejected as one releases the beloved fur kid, and watches the rear portion of the pets anatomy as it rapidly, and with great agility disappears to places unknown……this causing a repeat of the entire wretched, and disheartening procedure..Well, those days are over. Pet owners everywhere can rejoice in their new lives of ease and happiness, while at the same time not being subjected to the reproachful and betrayed glances of their beloved fur kids. Just place the pill in the pocket, hand it to your happy and panting buddy, and the job is done. Everyone is happy, your best friend has just enjoyed a delightful snack, and is probably begging for more, and the pet’s human is enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, and the lack of bitten and mangled hands and fingers that were the inevitable, and unavoidable result of the other positively medieval manner of pet medicating, in days gone past.I maimtain a ready supply of of both styles of Pill Pockets at all times. When the package begins to run low. I immediately dash to my trusty computer and order more, via Amazon Prime. The brilliant geniuses at Greenies are to be commended, upon bended knee for their dream of an invention, which maintains tranquility in the hearts of both man and beast. These Pill.Pockets are best stored inside of their closed bag, which is then placed inside of another zipper plastic bag, this ensures that the Pockets maintain their pliability, and the aroma so pleasing to the olfactory senses of canines everywhere. These Pockets are not cheap, but I would rather go without food for a week, than to have to resort to the hideous pill-giving methods of days of yore. These Pill Pockets work, they do what they say they will do, and they help to maintain your peaceful, loving, and adoring connection with your beloved fur kid. I recommend these most highly, just the absence of mangled and chewed fingers is worth the price alone, not to mention the happiness and peace that you are granting your pet through the use of these wonderful Pill Pockets.DISCLAIMER:( Upon spell-checking this glowing review, it occurs to me that I probably should mention that I have absolutely no connection to the Greenies Pill Pocket people. I have no .idea of where they are located, or any knowledge of them, or of any of their employees or associates. I paid for these with my own hard-earned cash. No freebies, coupons, or gift codes were involved in the purchase of these Pill Pockets. I am just a really grateful dog owner, and a survivor of too many years of what used to be the sheer misery of pill administration to my beloved canines.)
WHOOPSKABOOM –
I would echo what many others have said about the Greenies being heaven-sent. Our two chihuahuas get a mix of bitter-tasting herbs/supplements, and the Pill Pockets have proven to be the easist, most effective (and most fun!) way to get them to take their daily dose (powders/tinctures which I mix up with a little coconut oil, divide into pea-sized “pills” and freeze). Our dogs like the Pill Pockets so much we use them as training treats! They’re kind of pricey, but I use them in a way that not only works better for our small dogs, it’s much less expensive! :o)When I first tried to give the pills in whole Pill Pockets, they were just too big for our 11-14 pound dogs to swallow without chewing (and discovering that there was yucky-tasting stuff inside, and spitting them out), so I needed to make them smaller and more “trustworthy”. So in addition to reducing the size (and cost!) as I’ll describe next, I also got them hooked on the treats by only giving small pieces of empty Pill Pocket a few times, until their suspicion abated. Now what I do is divide each (large) Pill Pocket into 4 quarters, and flatten a piece out into a concave oval on my palm with my thumb (they’re about the consistency of play-doh or clay, and very maleable). Then I fold/smoosh/seal it around the pill, being careful not to get the scent/taste of the pill onto the outside of the Greenie. Before offering the Pill Pocket, I divide one of the other quarters into pea-sized treats. After a big build-up (“Who… would like… a… SPECIAL TREAT!!”),I give them each one of the little pill-less treats (after a simple command like “sit” or “stay”–giving it as part of a training situation, followed by lots of praise, seems to get them even more enthusiastic about getting the treat)that they won’t stop to inspect or even chew it). Then I give them the treat with the pill inside, and they’re so excited, they don’t stop to inspect or even chew it. They wolf it down so fast they obviously have no idea it has their nasty-tasting supplements in it (MSM, Dogzymes Ultimate and Verm-X for immune system enhancement and parasite prevention). I follow up with some other less expensive, but well-liked treats. If you have larger pills, or larger dogs, you might only be able to cut the PillPocket into 2-3 pieces, but then you’re still cutting the cost by 2-3 times as well (and possibly making it easier for your dog to swallow without finding the pill). One note that may or may not be relevent to your situation–I wanted to save time, so made up a batch of the Greenie-wrapped pills to keep in the frige. Unfortunately, the flavor/scent of the herbs/supplements apparently leeched into the Greenie layer, and the dogs didn’t want anything to do with them. So now I just make them on the spot–it only takes a few moments, and I use the time to call the dogs and tell them about how tasty it’s going to be, etc., and it’s just become part of the treat ritual. :o)Additional FYI use for anxious dogs/cats: I also use pill pockets with L-Theanine L-Theanine 180C as a substitute for Composure for Medium and Large Dogs, 60 Soft Chews as a natural calming aid for the dogs when they will be alone all day, having company, going to the vet, etc. L-Theanine is only one of the 3 active ingredients in Composure, but it seems to do the trick and “take the edge off” for our excitable chihuahuas. I just squish the contents of the capsule into a flattened pill pocket, work it with my fingers until it’s completely blended, then divide it into individual doses, which I store in the frige. I strongly recommend that you do your own research about dosage–Composure’s manufacturer, Vetri-Science, has detailed weight/dosage instructions on their website, from which I derived the dosage that I use. L-theanine is almost tasteless, it just needs a “dosing vehicle” because it’s a powder, and the capsules for humans have way too much in them for my dogs (and I don’t want to put it in their food because one might eat it all, or the cats might get it, etc.)I’ve only used the chicken flavor (our dogs loved it so why mess with success?), and this is my first time ordering directly from Amazon. I’ve bought them at the pet store (much more expensive) and an Amazon marketplace vendor (much, MUCH more expensive, as it turned out–I thought I was getting six 9.6 oz packages for 26.59 including shipping, but received six 1.6 oz packages, totaling 9.6 oz, instead–I’m awaiting a refund, and ordering these directly from Amazon at a great price instead!).

My puppy is MASTERFUL at spitting out pills that I’ve shoved 1/2 way down his esophagus. There’s no hiding his pills in cheese, either. When he was diagnosed w/diabetes insipidus I found out he’d need to take 2 pills/day. Desperate, I gave these a shot and they work WONDERS. My pup loves taking his pills when they’re disguised in a pill pocket. I wish they were slightly cheaper, but it’s still worth it at their price! Highly recommend.

I have to give our dog 2 tablets & 1 capsule 2x a day. I only have to use 1 pocket. Some reviews said they were too soft. That actually works in my favor. I can tear apart & roll all 3 into little ‘gummies’. Being soft & chewable makes it easier for my small dog. All I have to say is do you want your “chewie”. He’s ready to take his meds without a fight. Foil package keeps them fresh with no worries of drying out. He loves both chicken & peanut butter flavors. Not expensive & definitely worth the $ knowing he’s not gonna spit his meds out.

My dog hates pills, but these work well. He likes the chicken flavor. The only reason for 4 stars is that the package contains some that are flattened.

They work!
These little pills saved our lives! We tried everything to get our Dog to take his meds, nothing worked, he would eat his away around food or treats that we hid and spit the tablets back out and if we placed them in his throat he still found a way to spit the tablet out. These pills were our last ditch attempt. Literally stood there in shock as he ate it up in seconds! If your Dog is as stubborn as ours to take his meds, then you MUST buy these. Simply, they work ! Amazing product.

Great flavor
Nice and soft but bit big for a chihuahua was easy enough to make smaller and she loved the flavor.
