These yak chews are a huge hit in our house! Both of my dogs go crazy for them, and I love that they’re all-natural with only three ingredients. They keep my pups busy for a long time, which is a big win—especially for power chewers. What I like:Super long-lasting compared to most other chewsNo strong smell (huge bonus!)Limited ingredients—great for sensitive tummiesGreat size for medium dogs and strong chewersWhat to know:They can get a little crumbly and messy, especially as they’re chewed downI usually have to do a quick vacuum or sweep afterward—but it’s worth it for how much my dogs love themWhen they get too small, I pop the ends in the microwave for a crunchy puff treat (they love that too!)

Here’s my large, aggressive chewing dog’s review of dog chews with the best at the top:1. Large Yak Cheese sticks:* Pros:each large stick lasts a few days. No smell or stomach upset. Keeps his interest. No sharp shards.* Cons:They are VERY hard and I’ve seen some reviews of dogs cracking their teeth. They can leave small bits of cheese on the floor where they are chewing it.2. Pressed Rawhide Bones/large raw hide rolls:* Pros: lasts a day maybe more. Keeps his interest. No smell or stomach upset. No mess. No sharp shards* Cons: I’ve seen cautions that rawhide can cause intestinal blockage. But honestly most of these treats could do that.3. Deer or elk antlers* Pros: lasts a long time (weeks). No smell, no stomach upset, no mess.* Cons: he did get bored of them. One he was able to chew down did break with a few sharp shards.4. Bully sticks (large) – I bought huge braided ones* Pros: he loves them. Minimal smell. No sharp shards* Cons: he finished it in a few hours and puked later :(. I gave him a second one a week later and he didn’t puke but I did find smaller pieces around the house as he had broke it down into chunks.5. Rubber or nylon based chews (flavored and unflavored):* Pros: lasts forever, some don’t smell, no shards* Cons: unless it’s got a treat hidden in there or I’ve smeared with peanut butter, he’s not interested.6. Huge beef bones (purchased from pet supplier, not from my table 🙂 )* Pros: lasts forever. Interest drops as the marrow and bits of meat get chewed away.* Cons: can be messy when it’s first given with the marrow and some meat on it. Thinner parts can be broken into shards. The shards are why I listed this last.

My dogs generally destroy every toy and bone within minutes. I have tried so many different toys and bones; antlers, rubber bones, pull toys, etc. But the dogs either get through them too quickly or they are unimpressed and don’t chew them. I didn’t know much about yak cheese until i received it and it’s the perfect bone for my dogs. The cheese is very hard, lasts a long time (he’s been working on one for a few hours and the top is just nippled a bit. They’re edible, digestible, healthy, great for the teeth, and they love the taste of the cheese. I highly recommend them for medium, large, and extra large dogs that are strong chewers.

***Update 1/10/23So far even with issue from first post, these seem the best and safest option for my super chewer. Since original post, tried out some bully sticks and found them more expensive and she got through one in minutes, not days. As far as these go compared to bully sticks they last way longer and don’t smell bad ( bully sticks do). After she went through the first four yak chews chews in original bag, I’ve ordered more. Changed to four stars from 3 because they are safe, she gets to eat all of chew so no waste, and they engage the heck out of her. These are a good product. Still wish the price was lower but this brand seems to be a good buy compared to most, especially as these are really solid and last a while.****Original review:So went out on a limb and spent what I feel is a LOT of money for dog chews – $6 bucks each – But we recently adopted a GSD 7 month old puppy who is a serious superchewer – has destroyed all toys but her kong, and puts EVERYTHING in her mouth. When the package of chews first came, I got a little ticked off looking into the bag (see pics) because it made it look like they weren’t the same size – but after investigating, they are all approximately the same weight, just not the same length/shape. Only one of the chews in the bag looks like the ones on the advertising pics. Not consistent, and since this is a formed and cut item, I was expecting each one to be pretty uniform. From the pictures I’ve included, you can see the short one especially is very square, which brought on another issue – pup was very interested in the chew, but when she tried to chew it, lost interest very quickly as the corners and sides were sharp and seemed to hurt her mouth. Tried it out with her sage older buddy (4yr. old GSD) and got the same reaction. Interest turned to ‘no thanks’. So I took the short chew out to the garage, used a very sharp, large chisel and shaved down the corners and edges so they weren’t sharp anymore. Not only did Cali decide the shavings were tasty, she then really gave the chew a go. I’m a bit skeptical, as this chew is very hard, seems harder or at least analagous to a Benebone which we had for her, which we didn’t buy a third after reading their site recommendations for chew levels at which to discard (basically you pay about $12 for about two day’s worth of chew if you discard at the point their website says is safe), and realizing she was just ingesting thousands of little sharp nylon shavings with them. So we bought these hoping they’d last, and be a lot safer. I’m holding my judgement on the chew until she’s had more time with it, as I’m not sure I like how it sounds on her teeth (may be too hard?) and the way it is breaking down so far … smallish chunks/shards like if you bite on a hard candy were coming off… was hoping more like meal, crumbles, not sharp bits. We will see.** Update 12/20/22She loves these things, and they do soften up after she has a go at them for a bit and do become soft crumbles. They are lasting about 3 days each, that is about 2-3 hard core chew sessions per day. Once shaved the sharp edges down she goes to town on it. I put one end in her kong to keep the end bit from becoming a choking hazard. Have had to get that bit out with tools (screwdriver on small end, pliers on big) but it keeps her safe. Followed the directions of soaking the end bit in water, then microwaving – makes a weird hard kind of puff – more like a large very rigid pork rind – and she loves those too, but warning – they make a god-awful mess. So far, these are the best edible chews I have tried that are digestible and safe. I feel like that makes this type of treat worth it – and is probably saving our furniture, which would cost more than these admittedly.

My dogs love these and keeps them entertained for hours. They chew them about 1-2 hrs a time and they last about 5-6 uses. I like that they don’t have a ton of ingredients and are good for times when my dogs are stuck inside and need something to do. Not very messy either in comparison to other treats like this I have tried.

Not the best chews. Idk if these have been sitting in a warehouse and got brittle or what, but they fall apart into chunks. I had to remove chunks to microwave for cheesy poofs. My pups loved them, but they’re more brittle and much smellier than the brand from the local pet store.ETA: I reached out to the company and let them know that I was dissatisfied with my purchase and they refunded my money with no issues. They stand by their guarantee.

Great treats for Dogs
My dog loves these. She is a heavy chewer and these fit the bill. They don’t crack a dogs teeth like other hard treats.

Update-Do not last as long as other brands
I am updating my review as their customer service representative reached out regarding the product. I appreciate the exceptional service. Overall these are great for medium chewers. I purchased them as they were a great deal. They are packaged well and the dogs love them. However, they only last a day (or a few hours). Other brands last a week. I have aggressive chewers, so if your dogs are less aggressive I would highly recommend as they are a great deal, don’t splinter, are basically odourless, and are a great natural product. If you have aggressive chewers you might want to look at other brands.

My dog enjoys these chews
Not my dogs absolute favourite chew (she enjoys bullys a lot more), but they do last a long time as she chews for maybe 10 mins at a time and then leaves it to play with a toy. They are brittle so will break if dropped on a hard floor. They are messy as well and little bits of hard cheese will be found everywhere! But they are a long lasting, hard chew so will order these from time to time. Not a bad price as well.

Long lasting chews, and they won’t chip their teeth
I have three dogs, and two of them are ferocious chewers, a golden retriever and an Australian Shepherd. I am pleased how long these last although you have to watch when they get really small you don’t want them to swallow them.Just have to watch they don’t get the runs but so far seems OK so I’m quite satisfied

Cheese yak
I’ve bought these for my dogs a few times now. However, the yaks in this last purchase seem.to break off in big chunks making them a choking hazard.Update. Seller promptly reached out and provided excellent alternative suitable for my dog and very likely and reasonable explanation for how our particular package of yaks may have been impacted by extreme temperature in reaching our destination. Very pleased with service
